Cool screw the artist! That's taken care of through an intricate web of taxes, duties and fees. So all music borrowed on the library can be copied and/or ripped legally by the lender (though the Library can not copy it for you), and I can even make copies for my "closest friends and relatives" of all music and movies (but not software) that I borrow, rent or buy. It's very good to be a consumer in Norway... most of the time... ;)

In fairness to Google, no one said that they were out to destroy iTunes or anything like that. They've got a growing mobile business, and it makes sense that they want to make some cohesive media store.

Likewise, Apple is trying to grow its online/cloud services (Google's strength)! Funny, they are kind of moving towards each other in that sense...

What does a music store have anything to do with a mobile business.
No one before Apple had a music store that goes along with a mobile business.

It makes sense now because Apple did it.

As usual, any hack that will come out will probably be hard to use, and <1% of the general computer-using population will ever use it. I don't see this as a big threat, really...

I'd say less than 10% of the general computer-using population even *heard* of the previous iTunes 'Play Fair' stuff (such as Hymn, Harmony, etc.), much less even thought of using it. Don't believe me? Ask your Mom, Grandma, non-geek friends, etc.

More people have heard of the 'DeCSS' programs, but, again, how many have actually used them? I'd say less than 1% of the computer-using public. And most of these people, like me, would only use it to exercise 'fair use' rights (i.e. I'm going on a plane trip, and I rip a DVD I own to my HD to save battery power, then I delete the files after watching it).

    This!

You dont get second chances when your register is missing 300

Good point. I was a cashier at Powell's Books many years ago. If my till had been that much short I would have been out on my rear end before the day was over.

As others have said, good luck on the karma side, OP. You're going to need it.

    Let the flaming continue!

Huge saving on airport express. New Airport Ultra Express (802.11n) at Macworld!

    Confirmed! :)

Can you please tell us where you heard that? Regardless, I think I will still go with the sale and get another Express. Don't base it on the sale because they have had the Expresses on sale for the last two black Fridays.

Using aluminum would hinder the cellular reception wouldn't it ?

Ummm, you use AT&T too, right? I couldn't imagine we'd see much of a difference :D

Fun game, have it on PS3. A few things must be addressed though.

It does take too little killstreaks to gain really. But at least the killstreaks top out at 11 on this one, which I think makes it better.

The attack dogs really do my head in though!

Those dogs are real pains, nearly impossible to kill :P

Which leads me to believe Apple may be going for a design like this:

    http://www.phonesreview.co.uk/2010/03/30/iphone-4g-aka-hd-mock-up-design-and-details-photo/

After the iPad, I agree. but it's an iPhone.

if there are new product announcements as everyone believes to be the case, the store will have to be updated as well as the iTunes store.

does anyone remember how long the apple store's down prior to new products being listed?

If I remember correctly about an hour before showtime. Hey cool I made a pun.

I think Apple knew what they were doing. I think they may integrate this with Ping (worst thing ever), like 'PersonX likes the same music as you and also likes AdvertY' as some sort of viral marketing.

A marriage made in hell :D

I am a Powerbook G4 user, and ready for a new computer. I was hoping that they would update the MacBook Pro, because I would definately buy one, but that doesn't look like thats going to happen anytime soon... ::mad:

Do you edit HD video? Do you do mobile multitrack recording (32 tracks or more at a time)?

If not, my question is... why are you "ready" for a new computer?

By the way, I have a PB 1GHz, running OS X 10.5 smoothly, and it works just fine. I have the money to go blowing on new gadgets but, I've mellowed out on that.

However, if you want to buy yourself a new toy every year "just cos"... be my guest. I'm an Apple shareholder and I appreciate the money going out of your pocket and into mine.

The Apple ecosystem is no more open or closed then any other system, Apple, Android, Rim, Windows etc.

Apple has by far the most restrictive ecosystem. You can't even load applications that are not approved by Apple.

DigiTimes' track record is amazingly bad. You'd think they'd be right more often just by guessing.

WTF is so great about 'gestures'? There's nothing quite so miserable as barely bumping the fraking trackpad while typing and causing the text cursor to go flying off somewhere else or any other way of accidentally activating some of these gestures (the more you have the more likely you'll accidentally activate them at some point unintentionally). And while Apple trackpads feel better than many out there, nothing beats a mouse for certain operations, IMO. I'd take a mouse any day over a trackpad. Old fashioned? That's like saying a '65 Mustang with a 4-speed on the floor is old fashioned next to a modern Mitsubishi Lancer with paddle shifters. I'll take the Mustang ANY DAY over that.

Here is why gestures are great and will win out over mouse and keyboard use for almost all uses: they are a direct action and not an indirect action. We are born with an innate sense of using our fingers to manipulate objects. We have to learn the abstraction concept of a mouse and keyboard, items that come between us and our end product (we put up with it because it is effective and productive for certain purposes, but it's a learned behavior and not innate).

90% of what we use a mouse for can be better done with gestures. Those uses will absolutely dominate over the next decade, leaving mouse usage for specialized applications only. You cannot bet against anything that works with human ability instead of something that creates an extra abstracted metaphor ("see this device? It controls the pointer on the screen. As you move that device, the pointer will move accordingly") for human ability.

All you have to do is see how someone reacts once they get used to gestures and then face a system that does not support them. They get frustrated that they have to insert an extra layer of manipulation when all they want to do is point directly with their fingers.
