Are you sure it was FCP and not just the generic NLE layout you saw?

They wouldn't use both - if they were using MC, the only other app they might export to would be Scratch.

Also, he's technically correct: Benjamin Button's budget was $150 million.

Now you made me doubt myself, gonna go check the bluray. :)

And about Button, ah so I suppose the extra 50 mil makes you go AMC. :)

Edit: Checked the blu ray, I stand corrected they are using Avid. When I saw the Apple keyboards and Apple Cinema displays with OS X background all over the place, I must have automatically assumed it was FCP. Why would they use macs for AMC though?

Personally, I think this thread is screwed unless it gets enough posts to start a new page so that the chart load can be skipped.

...I just don't understand this whole "he's 18 and and adult" routine. He may be 18 in the eyes of the law, but with no real life experience behind him I hardly think he can be considered mature enough to make adult decisions. What's with this whole "hey presto the law says your an adult so you your all grow up now" ??...
You may not have been but I was perfectly able to make adult decisions about my life before I was 18years old.
At 18 the law recognised that I should be capable of behaving like an adult. It is the job of parents (and society) to make sure that there children are ready to be adults by 18years, which means they should've been preparing them for these sort of decisions for years. A parent shouldn't treat a son like a child until they're 18years and then from their 18th birthday treat them as an adult.

    ...I walked in on mine...
As an early teen I was in the room next to mine and had to endure a night of their role-playing passion. (Theyre normally quite straight laced).

Then a couple of years later when I was maybe 16/17years old I walked in on them at around 11pm in the living room. Mum sat in the arm-chair with a leg over each arm and Dad kneeling going down on her.

    ***shudders***

Embarrassed? Yes, all of us. Disgusted? No, couldnt see a reason to be. Ever sat in that chair again? No ***king way! Eww.

Why buy a 3G iPhone, when there are 4G phones available ?

    This.

More importantly -- why get locked into a 2 year service agreement to a 3G iPhone when there are 4G phones available?

You might not need or want 4G/LTE right now, but why limit yourself when the NextBigThing might require a high-speed connection.

Sweet. But, there's more to just piggybacking on your mac's airport connection to make calls. I think more has to be done to make this networking possible.

There are already wi-fi enabled phones that can make Skype calls if you have a wi-fi connection. This is nothing new or groundbreaking.

Well this certainly beats that ipod integration nonsense. MP3 player phones are a dime a dozen, I'd rather see great communication device that take how the user communicates to the next level, not just stuff a music player in it.

MP3 player phones are a dime a dozen and also *hugely* popular. Look at how well the LG Chocolate is doing with their craptacular phone. The iPhone *must* have iPod integration to be a success, IMO. At minimum it must have seamless iPod integration and a decent-to-good phone experience. Everything else is gravy.

Many manufacturers already do this with their unlocked phones - but they just store the settings on the phones (no need to connect to a computer).
Manufacturers selling unlocked phones is common elsewhere and is now already beginning in the States.
This won't fly - usage is terrible and would make dialing slower than it currently is. And texting would truly suck.

In fact, Sony launched their w800i phone unlocked in the U.S. (was only availalbe from the Sony Style store). The thing is, at $500 it was extremely cost-prohibitive and definitely aimed at technology early adopters. I'm sorry, but phones are just too darn expensive at full retail price. Apple *needs* the subsidy for signing a new contract. That's the only thing that will make the price competitive for the mass market. I expect Apple will partner with T-Mobile and/or Cingular, and that the phone will be available for no more than $300 with new contract (and even that is expensive by today's standards).

Do you mean latency? evdo gives up to 3mbps in urban areas. That should be plenty.

EV-DO is not available on GSM networks in the US. As far as I know the GSM providers (basically T-Mobile and Cingular) are using HSDPA for their 3G network. And everything I've heard about it has been good. The early reports on the Cingular 3G network are that it's quite zippy and handles streaming video just fine...

I also like the idea of using the click wheel to make a retro style digital-rotary phone. However, I doubt Apple would just display the numbers on the screen and not on the unit. So when in dial mode, you would spin the click wheel and the numbers, displayed on the display in a circle, would highlight the number that you were on and then click the center button on the click wheel to select. If you wanted to get really old school, you could have the rotary sounds come through the headphones. Or course you would still be able to dial by your address book or search through a downloaded version of the white or yellow pages (which would naturally sync into your phone whenever you charge it at home, via blue tooth or direct connection to your computer).

Text messaging is extremely popular and I just don't see Apple crippling text messaging on the iPhone. Can you see inputting a 120-character text message on a "rotary-style" interface? Yeah, I can't either. Any kind of rotary interface on the iPhone is a non-starter idea, IMO.

P.S. The title of this thread is: "iChat Phone from Apple?". Kind of implies that there must be as simple, fast way to input text, right? I'm thinking a full qwerty keyboard is a definite possibility...

twitter to me at a personal level that RSS did at a website level. the way i use twitter is to "follow" people that mean something to me. Graphic designers, musicians, comedians, celebrities, and of course friends. Its great to get incite in what these creative minds are doing through out the day. I don't care what a certain person ate for breakfast, but that certain person might have a really awesome link to share. thats the key to twitter. link sharing.

I also use twitter to research. If i am interested in a product, i will type in the product into twitter search and you get instant results to what real people are saying in real time. Thats how i use Twitter, and see some of its benefits.

Cheers - interesting. Never thought of using it for product searches etc.

Loved battlezone and red baron as a small child....worth $.99 easily. May plug another buck for tempest. $15 for the package, a lot of which consists of atari 2600 titles which even had crappy graphics for the 70's, pass.

    iCade looks interesting, though.

Here is a re-write of the article for those wishing for more "clarity" :p :

While pre-orders of Apple's Second Generation iPod Shuffle, which has a capacity of one Gigabyte (1 Gigabyte = 1,000,000,000 bytes) have recently begun to ship to customers (those who buy things), Apple has announced the general availability of the music player in Apple Retail Stores and Authorized Retailers worldwide this Friday.

AppleInsider (another rumor site) has reported that while retailers (those who sell things) may get stock of the players prior to Friday, they will not be allowed to place them out for sale until Friday.

Oh, surely we can do better than that...

While pre-orders (requests for a product before the product is actually available) of Apple's (a computer company specializing in Macintosh brand computers) Second Generation iPod (a line of electronic portable music players sold by Apple) Shuffle (move things around so as to occupy different positions or to be in a different order)...

    Okay, okay, I'll stop... ;)

...Ok, I am 47....to paraphrase IIRC Chris Rock (or maybe Eddie Murphy), in my youth a shot cured you, but this ****** kills.". In my youth we did not have AIDS or Herpes...
If you're 47 you were ~23years old when AIDS hit the headlines. When did your 'youth' end? Oh and I'm pretty sure herpes was about, but it shows how bad sex education either state or parental must've been back then!

...Except if you want to have a drink!...
Again it seems society differs between the US and many other places. I could legally drink in restaurants with my parents and I think it's legal to drink from 16years when you're having a meal with at least one person over 18years at the discretion of the restaurant although most won't serve to protect their own license.
