Yet another Notes hater here.
I first came across it at work in 1992 or so, back with version 2. We used it for our customer support and sales databases, and the company were still using it in 1999 when I finally left them. By then they were also developing a web-server product based on the current Notes webserver component, and re-launched the company around this product, floating the company to obtain extra venture capital. It was quite frankly the worst performing web server I'd ever seen, and the company folded when the money ran out.
As part of supporting this junk product I had to pass a Notes exam. For that I learnt how Notes mail handled multiple copies of the same large attachment within multiple mailboxes. I forget the full details, but there was a nightly process that ran through the mail database and consolidated such attachments. It was a horrible mechanism. The previous mail system I came from handled this in a far simpler way by simply using hard links.
A collegue once ran the then current Notes release under the debug version of Windows 3.1, and had never seen so many reported errors in code.
I'd also had to integrate Notes (version 4 I believe) into another E-mail sytem via a gateway at a customer. Configuring SMTP to an external source under Notes was a pain, and it took 3 'engineers' about 4 hours to try all of the combinations before we could get it to both send and receive mail.
I've come across Notes a few times since then. Still horrible.

Maybe the reason they didn't bring it up was because they are working on a new feature (ie new maps or turn by turn gps built into the next iOS; they did mention it was to collect data for something like that), but now that the media has blown it out of proportion, they had to come out and address it. At least, that's what I'm assuming Apple's point of view was.

Google Maps is the gold standard, but Apple has been known to overthrow standards :)
That's the right kind of thinking, and should be the default thinking going in to any conversation about Apple's ideas.

I was browsing through the "April 2011 Desktops" forum, and I was wondering how people are customizing their backgrounds. I'm new here, so I'm still learning. For example, I've seen people with custom icons on their docks, and on their desktop, it shows the weather and time and all that. How can I get those? Thanks, and sorry for the noob question.

Don't include me. Your reasoning is as confused as your conclusion. There is absolutely no logic in maintaining that killing is wrong and then appealing to that principle to justify more killing.
I think someone shouldn't play god, but at the same time I agree that if you take a life, your life should be taken ( I know I'm contradicting myself, but that's just HOW I feel ) But I'd also rather someone rot in prison for 50 years. But then again, it's like a holiday camp in prisons here. Playstations, internet, TV. The UK is a complete and utter joke. We're the laughing stock of the world. We're so scared of human rights, we bend over backwords for any prisoner. I'm SO happy that common sense what introduced for prisoner votes.
Justify more killing, I could use the same old line, "I bet their victim didn't want to die", all that crap, but I won't. All I'm going to say is that countries need to show that if you kill, you're not going to get away with it lightly.
When I say "we", I don't speak for everyone, I maybe misworderd it a little..
Republic of Ukistan, if that were a real place (which I have a feeling it is...) I'm sure they would have capital punishement! :p
P.s, I tend to stay away from political threads, but I just couldn't help myself! I always end up getting seriously bashed in them! meh.. :(

Good news everyone!!! You guys remember the connecticut home invasion where Dr. William Petit, his two daughters and wife were brutally attacked in their home, and the daughters and wife were tortured, raped and murdered? Well, the trial for the second suspect is going on today, and he's probably getting the death penalty!! The first suspect, steven hayes, was already sentenced to death a few months back. CHEERS!!! :D:D:D I'm so glad connecticut is one of the sane states that has a death penalty. Unfortunately my state was the first to ban it in 2007. I would say go for a good old fashioned lynching.

Against what I originally said I shelled out another $3 and bought the update. Was it worth the $3? no not really. Lost the themes. As others have said the UI is over designed and not completely functional. I have noticed some missing tweets, this is NOT acceptable.
I hate his BS excuse for not having themes. "We didnt remove them, we just didnt add them. Its a whole new app".
If he's calling it "Tweetie 2", its not exactly a "whole new app". Its supposed to be Tweetie 1 with more features, and a UI refresh if thats what he wants to do. Its not supposed be be less functional than the app that came before it.

If Adobe priced this for $29.99 on the App Store I would buy it as a companion tool to PS CS5. But I don't think I would be using my fingers to work... I would incorporate a POGO Stylus.
What would be cool is if you could tap your left index finger and then the POGO to enable a "right click" for options.
I would be even more interested in an Illustrator for the iPad!
What I still want though is to be able to shoot tethered to an iPad. Has anyone heard of an app that will allow me to instantly see what I just shot with a tethered DSLR?

I think it's funny all the comments about "is that enough?" I think this proves two things...
1. Most people don't quite understand just how much a million/billion/trillion of something is.
2. People think that this 12PB amount must have been decided upon arbitrarily, as if Apple didn't do a crapload of research to decide what a good starting amount would be.
Here's another good visual representation of trillion, in dollars:
What does a trillion dollars look like? (http://www.pagetutor.com/trillion/index.html)

Can you guys answer 1 question for me?
When the next iPhone does come out how will iPhone 4 Verizon customers be able to upgrade? Do you think that Verizon and AT&T will work out an early upgrade for them?
Or do you think people who want the iPhone on Verizon will have already waited for the 5.
Once your contract is up you are probably ready for iphone 6.
In the meantime, penalty for earlier upgrade would be my guess.
................BUT 2 years is a lot of time for technology in the cellular field.
By then there may be a whole new way of doing that business out there.
Apple could become a player in that field like Skype. They can do it via ichat, face time or itunes or mobile me.
Maybe in the future we don't need cellphone providers, just data access companies. A wifi network all over the country may do.
Their North Carolina facility is only starting up........

Has anyone seen those bright blue iPhone cases? You know the ones that it seems like every single woman in Australia encloses their iPhone in?
Am I the only one who finds these incredibly detrimental to the iPhone's aesthetics?
Just my daily rant.

Currently, Apple's usage rights allow downloadable content to be played on an unlimited number of iPods (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304277) as well as up to 5 computers, although DVD burning is limited to archiving purposes only (DVD-Video burning is not supported).
There's unlimited, and there's unlimited. An iPod can only handle protected tracks or movies from five iTunes accounts at a time. That, plus the restrictions on who can load the stuff onto the iPod in the first place, make iTS downloads a lot less attractive than DVD rips for someone looking to get a free ride. The studios don't seem to understand that there is already a pretty comfortable environment set up for them.
