Guess another company will have to produce a reverse of Rosetta if this trend keeps up!

(because Apple would never do it, they don't want people using their PPC machines anymore)

Why do you guys assume Nvidia cannot make graphic cards for Sandy Bridge? Have you seen Dell's Alienware laptop line? They have the new processors and also are using Nvidia graphics card.

NVidia can make graphics cards but they cannot make chipsets. The 320M is the chipset as well. There are only two chips in the logic board, the CPU and 320M. With a discrete GPU, there would have to be three chips; CPU, PCH and GPU. Since space is very limited in MBA, there is simple no space for all three chips.

4" screen in 16:9 format would be nice. I don't find 3.5" too big.

This would indeed be a welcomed improvement however I highly doubt that there's much truth to these claims.

    Well, this is confusing.

Last year Macrumors posters told me in no uncertain terms that CR is always wrong.

So how am I supposed to take this news?

That was when CR posted something bad about Apple product. Now they tell the truth again, because they post good stuff about Apple product. It makes sense...

My back is still killing me but at least i can sit for more than 30 minutes right now, expect the widget to change this week.

    welcome back to folding dubbz!

As for the tracking of other folders and multiple instances.
It is indeed, as Flying Llama pointed out, an apple thing with the prefs. You should however be able to work around this by duplicating the widget in your library and giving it a different name. This will let you run different widgets in stead of different instances. No idea on the performance hit though, not at home/mac right now.

A 'target' option is in the make. It will let you track 3 folders or teams of your choice in one widget. Now how cool is that ;).

they don't lose the secret features due to NDAs.

    Just asking the experts ...

Is it possible Apple could release the final version with the option to initialize a drive with ZFS prior to install? Everything I have read about ZFS seems to point to it as a next logical step for Apple's OS.

I hope they introduce that option. Then it would be up to the customer to pick integrated or dedicated graphics, depending on his[her] needs.True, different people have different needs. Some should expect more out of a modern machine then integrated crapo graphics. My guess is 1st qtr next year we will see new Macbooks and they will have more integrated graphics since they kept the x1600 in the pro books. GMA3000 will show in it. Not to say I told anybody so but I predicted the Probooks would get the new core2s and the macbooks wouldnt. This gives Apple some seperation between the two lines. Apple could go cheap meaning speed bump CoreDuo's not Core2Duos and the integrated graphics that the fan club seems to love. Why not? As long as you have the cheap graphics whats the point of throwing in Core2? None that I can see.

the Consumerist was recently bought by Consumer's Union. The "non profit" organization that sells the magazine Consumer's Reports. the same rag that has different testing standards for different products to push the snobby/elite/more expensive ones.

last year they tested some child car seats differently to say the cheaper ones were deadly

Anyone else thinks that Apple is readying the merger between iOS and MacOSX, at last?

I certainly hope not. I hate this merging of a phone OS with a real one. If that really happens (and I doubt it will anytime soon) I would jump back to Windows land and enjoy my new Apple gadgets for recreation.

So as a new MB user, in which everything works fine so far, this update means nothing to me?

first off, WELCOME...second off, just an FYI, all Mac users are required by law to be excited about every update the comes along, and should rush out on a drop of a dime to install it. It's just something you have to do, or your membership to the Mac community gets revoked. 8-)

All joking aside.....I really wish support for Blackberry 7130e as a USB modem would be built in. I have the Verizon software for Windows....and the Mac version (made for Verizon by Smith Micro) does not support the Blackberry yet 8(

I gotta boot into Windows or use Parrallels...yech...

being a network admin for a medium business that is 100% Macs, i am extremely concerned by Lion and its lack of server ability. looking at Lion over the last few days has depressed me somewhat. there are ZERO changes to WGM and Server Admin - and the new Server thing is just a joke to admins in a professional environment.

so overall, i am rather dissapointed :(

There's no indication on Apple's Lion preview page that they're packaging a gutted server package with additional add-ons to be sold separately.
currently its all in the one bundle, but i believe they will charge extra for server essentials once they release it.

It's all speculation at this point, but a description like that makes it sound like ALL of Lion Server is included in each copy of Lion.
it kind of did! but it doesnt seem very apple :/

    Yes you can.

I installed XP on a new HDD with only one large partition (NTFS) without the 200mb EFI partition from OS X. I didn't use Bootcamp at all.

So far, everything's working fine and I can boot between OS X and XP with no problems.

That's really interesting! You just held "c" at boot to load up the XP CD?

I'm guessing you still needed to use a "slipstreamed" XP SP2 CD with the SATA drivers installed so it doesn't run in dog slow PIO mode

Where the hell did you find chipset drivers, graphics card drivers, sound card drivers etc?

I saw on this website that it looks like they have been holding them for the morning. From what I have seen this is holding true, at least at Willow Bend and Stonebriar.

Thanks for confirming. Going to try calling northpark and Knox stores on Friday night and asking if they're opening early on Saturday morning. I guess I'll just head bright and early to whichever store gives me the most promising answer :/

Why all the complaining? If this is a move to increase the quality of service in NYC, isn't this a good move till they upgrade their towers? If it's truly because of fraud, that's understandable. AT&T should be truthful about reasons for their actions, maybe they have been.

Isnt Jobs a vegan? Cancer or not, not eating any animal products whatsoever is going to make you quite thin. If for no other reason than most things have animal products thus there just isnt a lot to eat.

What has Obama really done besides go on vacation for the last few years? How the hell has he raised any bar? Tell me what all he promised to do and then tell me exactly how many of those things he has accomplished so far.

    I think he quit smoking:rolleyes:

Anyone else thinks that Apple is readying the merger between iOS and MacOSX, at last?

I mean, why would the OSX get sliders instead of buttons (-> finder, etc)? And how would otherwise be the file-sharing in a cloud-centric iOS possible?

    Looking quite forward to it!

What remains to clear how they would deal with the custom Apple ARM vs Intel chipsets programming issue (just as ppc and intel?), programming of apps (.app vs .ipa) ...

Oh, a lot more remains to be clear than that. Like the fact that MacOS X and iOS have completely different UI layers, Window managers, input methods, memory systems, etc.

People often think a few UI elements are all that make up the OS, but there is so much more happening under the hood, and in the way the user interacts with the machine, that it's pretty clear that a merge between desktop and touch-based OSes are a loooong way off, if ever.
